About this concert
This new shorter matinee format pairs Tan Dun's technology-infused Passacaglia: Secret of Wind and Birds with Richard Strauss's sweeping tone poem An Alpine Symphony, conducted by José-Luis Novo. The hour-long concert, without intermission, depicts a mountain ascent from night to storm to summit using a massive orchestra with organ, wind and thunder machines, and offstage horns.
