Worth the drive: Elgar's set of orchestral variations portrays fourteen friends (and himself) through musical caricature, anchored by the beloved slow movement "Nimrod." Guest conductor Rebecca Tong leads the Fresno Philharmonic in Elgar's Enigma Variations, with pianist Orion Weiss returning to perform MacDowell's Piano Concerto No. 2. The program opens with Ascending Creatures by Indonesian composer Eunike Tanzil.
