Jorge Federico Osorio

Jorge Federico Osorio is a Mexican pianist with a long international career as a concerto soloist and recitalist. He is known for a broad repertoire that runs from Mozart and Beethoven through Brahms and Ravel, and for championing Spanish and Latin American composers, Manuel Ponce among them. He appears twice with the National Symphony Orchestra in late 2026, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 on programs alongside Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker and Prokofiev's Cinderella.

Osorio plays with a singing, unforced tone and lets phrases breathe rather than pressing them forward, an approach that suits the Mozart concerto he brings to Washington. Piano Concerto No. 21 is best known for its slow movement, a long floating melody over rocking triplets that became famous through the film Elvira Madigan; the outer movements are brisk and conversational, with the piano trading short ideas back and forth with the woodwinds. Listen for the cadenza, the unaccompanied stretch near the end of the first movement where the soloist is alone with the themes. The rest of both programs is orchestral: Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker suite of dances and Prokofiev's Cinderella music, tarter and more angular than the Tchaikovsky beside it.
